UFC on Fuel TV 10 Preview

ufc-ftv-10Yet another version of The Ultimate Fighter will wrap up this weekend at UFC on Fuel TV 10 with TUF Brazil 2 wrapping up in Fortaleza, Brazil. The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 2 has continued the long legacy of The Ultimate Fighter and has once again brought a new stable of Brazilian fighters to the UFC. More than that though, it would pit two legendary Brazilians against each other as coaches. Minotauro Nogueira and Fabricio Werdum have done almost everything there is to do in MMA as both go back to the Pride days. In fact they go back to a single point when they first met in the ring at Pride Critical Countdown Absolute in 2006. At that time it was a meeting of two fighters at different points of their career. Minotauro was in his prime as one of the best heavyweights in Pride while Werdum was in his 9th fight and had yet to truly master the points of Mixed Martial Arts. In that fight Minotauro was the better fighter as he would take the unanimous decision victory and continue on his legendary career. Nogueira would take the win and eventually enter the UFC where he would win the heavyweight title in 2008. Meanwhile Werdum would take the loss and learn from it to form his own UFC career that would be up and down for the most part. Now Werdum is riding a two fight win streak and will be looking to get revenge on Nogueira who is struggling to find traction in the heavyweight division. Minotauro has gone back and forth between wins and losses in his UFC career but it has not changed the fact that he is still one of the best fighters in MMA. It will be an interesting fight between two Brazilian heroes, of which Nogueira will likely get the biggest cheer, as a lot has changed from their first fight in 2006. Minotauro is no longer a dominant force in the division as he still shows flashes of brilliance but is not the same fighter as he was in 2006. Werdum on the other hand has gained plenty of experience and is more well-rounded than when they faced off in 2006. Werdum is still a ground first fighter though as his Jiu Jitsu is above almost anyone in the UFC. As a multiple time World Champion Werdum is clearly comfortable on the ground than anywhere else. Still he has worked on his stand up and has earned three KOs in 11 fights since losing to Nogueira including a first round KO of Mike Russow last June. Werdum is looking to show that his game is a lot better than in 2006 as he hopes to get the win and move up from his #3 ranking in the UFC heavyweight division. Nogueira is trying to show everyone that there is still plenty in the tank for another run at the belt. Nogueira will need to take the win in this fight as he has gone 3-3 in his last six fights including a loss to Frank Mir for the belt in 2008. Big Nog is a BJJ practitioner as well although his boxing is a lot more developed than Werdum. Nogueira will try to keep this fight standing as even his great BJJ is no match for Werdum’s and he will want to stay out of danger. This fight is a match-up of two Brazilian legends but only one can come out on top. The winner will be the fighter who can impose his game on the other and at UFC on Fuel TV 10 that will be Fabricio Werdum. The younger Werdum is on the rise and is set to make a big impression by beating the elder statesman in Nogueira. It will be a good fight as it will come down to the later rounds when Werdum sinks in a great submission in the third round to end the fight and bring him one step closer to the UFC heavyweight championship.

The coaches will not be the only fighters getting into the act at UFC on Fuel TV 10 as two more fighters will have the chance to be the next Ultimate Fighter. It will be a matchup of the oldest finalist in the history of TUF against the second youngest finalist in TUF history. The 21-year-old William Macario has been fighting since 2010 and has yet to experience a loss going 6-0 in his career and winning every fight during the show. He is looking to be the youngest fighter since Kelvin Gastelum won TUF 17 in April. His opponent has had much of the opposite career path as Leonardo Santos has been fighting since 2002 in many different promotions. Earning his spot on the show Silva would carry his five fight win streak through the show to earn a spot in the finals. The match-up will not only be one with a veteran against a newcomer but will also be a matchup of knockout artist against a submission specialist. Macario has a penchant for finishing fights with 5 KOs and 1 submission in his six fights including two TKOs on the show. Meanwhile Santos has earned 7 submissions in his 11 professional fights while earning three Unanimous Decisions during the show. Both fighters will be looking for the chance of a lifetime as Macario could launch his young career in the biggest promotion in the world while Santos could finally get to the UFC after years of paying his dues.
